NLP

What is NLP?

NLP Stands for Neuro-linguistic Programming and is widely recognised in the fields of Psychotherapy, Medicine, Business and Sport. NLP uses perceptual, behavioral, and communication techniques to make it easier for people to change their thoughts and actions. It is about exploring our language and thinking and how we use techniques to train our brain into seeing things in a new light, which can have a positive result in terms of our actions, mental health as well as even our physiology.

What is NLP used for?

In terms of health concerns NLP is used to support people with phobias, anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress disorders, M.E./CFS and other chronic illnesses.

I implement NLP techniques such as…

  • Anchoring: Turning sensory experiences into triggers for certain emotional states.

  • Swish pattern: Changing undesirable patterns of behaviour or thought to come to a desired outcome.

  • Visual/kinesthetic dissociation (VKD): Trying to remove negative thoughts and feelings associated with a past event.

Do you have an NLP Qualification?

Yes, I am fully qualified with the institute that is accredited by the ANLP, the leading NLP organisation in the UK.

How do you use NLP in clinic?

  1. I largely use the practice of NLP in my M.E / CFS Group Mindset Coaching, where I teach my attendees the basic principles of NLP and how they can implement the techniques in their daily life in order to help ease their symptoms as well as viewing their illness in a different light. I have found that from my own journey and that of my clients that this was often the missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle in helping facilitate CFS recovery aside from Nutrition and Naturopathy. Collectively they make up the jigsaw to recovery. Do not underestimate the power of the mind in terms of recovery. Our mind and body are instrisnically linked, constantly communicating to one another. We can elicit a positive physiological response through a positive mindset. We can communicate to our body through our thoughts to access its parasympathetic nervous system and put our body into a more healing state.

  2. I also offer 1-1 mindset therapy sessions when a client is looking to work on their mental health and making change. I am on hand to work with you and help you reach a positive state of mind. Whether you suffer with a chronic illness, stress or anxiety, I am equipped to help support you. From speaking with you as your therapist to offering groundbreaking strategies such as NLP, I have a wealth of psychological experience in helping clients overcome everyday problems and reach their overarching wellness goals.

  3. I also use NLP in my 1-1 Nutrition and Naturopathy consultations with clients where I feel it’s appropriate and depending on my clients health goals. This can be particularly helpful to those with M.E./CFS and also those with anxiety, mental health struggles as well as those experiencing patterns of disordered eating.

Does NLP work?

Yes, NLP does work, but this is just as much about you and your cooperation in the process. I help guide and train you so that you have the tools to use NLP whenever and wherever. But you have to be active in practising and putting in the work when you’re out of sessions too. It is with determination and reinforcing those positive neural pathways that you will begin to cement and see those desired outcomes into fruition.
